The mighty Seb back on TV

A couple of days ago, coinciding with the launch of ticket sales for the 2012 Olympics, one of my heroes (not) Seb “Zeb” Coe was on morning TV.

Zeb was there to promote the ground breaking event and to take questions from the public about tickets sales. Interestingly, he did not take live calls, but rather relayed transcripts of the questions through the show’s presenters. I guess Zeb is now too high and mighty to speak to mere humans on something as primitive as a telephone.

The entertainment though was in Zeb’s brilliantly elusive answers to the most simple of questions. Here are some approximate examples of the question and answer game that he played.

Q1: We are a family with children. If we purchase the tickets as a group can you assure us that we will all be sat together?

Zeb’s answer: We will try our best!

Follow up question from the presenter: Well it is rather important that small children are seated with their parents. Can you guarantee that this will be the case.

Zeb’s answer: I can absolutely guarantee that will do everything that we can to make that happen (i.e. we will try our best).

Q2: I have heard that the tickets are for sessions and not days, is this true my Lord?

Zeb’s answer: (Along the lines of) the tickets are excellent value and I am sure that you will have a great day (sorry session) out.

Follow up question from the presenter: So are the tickets for a session or for the full day?

Zeb’s answer: There are lots of different sports and I am sure that everyone will have a great time (but I will not answer this question on pain of death).

The theme continued with Zeb absolutely determined not to answer any question, however simple or innocuous. Still it was great to see the multi Olympic champion and all round good guy back on TV again. To celebrate the fact I have attached a “unique” picture of Zeb. The unique element is that the great man is actually looking up and, as everyone surely knows, Zeb only ever looks down his nose at people.

For those seriously interested in the Olympics, I think that you only have a short window of opportunity in which to buy your tickets. The sale goes through to June and, barring an act of God, the only way that you can pay for them is with a Visa card. My guess is that Zeb might have quite a lot of Visa card points in the bank right now!

On to other things. Ill health has prevented me from posting earlier but, unfortunately for those who do not like me, I am only referring to a flu like bug.

My great excitement at the moment is the arrival today of a DVD set comprising the first three series of Benidorm. Ordinarily I dislike modern British attempts at comedy and I have refused to watch this particular show until 2 weeks ago when I somehow fell on the channel and got hooked. Quite why I enjoyed it I still cannot understand. It repels, shocks and amuses me all in one, but I guess that the shear political incorrectness is the deciding factor.

Finally, I always throw in a link or two and I was trying to find a Youtube clip of Seb’s interview this morning. Regrettably there was none, so here is one to a Human Resource company http://www.helpinghandhr.com which I am sure will be of interest to someone!!!

For those who do not know, HR is all about managing people and how they fit and work within an organisation. It covers training, grievance, strategy, management etc.
