Wekend away

My posts on this blog have been sparse of late to say the least and the reason is not a lack of things to write about, but rather a lack of time in which to write them.

So, in order to compensate here is a post about a recent long weekend that we spent on the East coast of Yorkshire.

We stayed at the Loft in Filey, a small house with a couple of bedrooms and bathrooms and an open plan living area, dinner and kitchen. We stayed there back in May of this year and, as with May, fell lucky with the weather.

We arrived mid afternoon on Friday and lazed around the town after settling in. On Saturday we spent most of the day in Filey before going to the Falcon Inn on the Scarborough Road for dinner. This is not to be recommended and I will add a Tripadvisor review to explain why. In short if you like a restaurant where the staff are happy for dinners to use the “F” word continuously and take their shoes off and put their bare feet up on chairs in front of other people who are eating, then this is the place for you. If not avoid it like the plague.

Sunday we went to Whitby and, despite Friday, Saturday and Monday being warm and sunny, Sunday had overcast skies and rain. Even so we had a good day and spent a bit of money in an outdoor shop that we visit when we are in the area. We ate at Marie Antoinette’s, a cafĂ© that has a lot of home made cakes. They are far from cheap, but the portions are large and the cakes are fantastic.

Interestingly we parked (as usual) in the big pay and display car park next to the Abbey ruins. The walk down to the town is fine, however it is uphill all the way back and most people find it a bit of a hike. I was surprised how easy it was compared with our previous visits and must put it down to losing 25 to 30 pounds over the last 3 or 4 months.

Speaking of parking, you can now park for free on many of the roads in Filey until the end of March 2012. I think that some of the car parks may also be free over the “out of season” period, but I will need to check.

Sometimes I add and interesting link and on this occasion the one that I am including is not all that fascinating. It is http://www.pool-heaters.net/more.html and it is a website about swimming pool heaters and other pool equipment. If you want to know about swimming pools, how they work and what you need to buy in order to run one it will make your day, if not then ignore it.

Hopefully my next posts will be a little bit more regular.
